Workers Rally At Avondale Shipyard

The W.A.R.N notice had been given and effects bargaining had begun at Avondale Shipyard a few weeks ago; But, Northrop Grumman Ship Systems had to stand down. This was due to political pressure being applied by the Metal Trades Department of the AFL-CIO and its affiliates, the Machinists being one of the affiliates, and the AFL-CIO’s “Save Our Shipyard Campaign”. The Navy decided to accelerate its schedule and build two new Double Hull Oilers at the Avondale facility. To celebrate and to show the need for a long term solution to possible job losses in the gulf coast, an employee rally was held on September 24, 2010 at the yard. See more at the link below.
