Velan Valve Workers Strike For New Agreement

Fri. October 12, 2007

More than a hundred IAM members at Velan Valve in Williston, VT struck the company for three days. The members of Local 2704 set up picket lines after overwhelmingly voting to strike the company after a proposal to triple health insurance co-pays.

The company improved their final offer by lowering health care costs for the membership and improving company contributions to the IAM Pension each year of the contract.

"The membership exhibited solidarity and professionalism from preparation throughout negotiations," said BR David Lowell. "Their solidarity made all the difference in the world during the days of the strike. This victory was because of the bargaining committee's dedication the commitment of the membership."
