January 5, 2005 - The IAM Fleet Service Negotiating Committee made a comprehensive contract proposal to US Airways management late yesterday that the committee said went further than any previous proposal to bridge the gap that separates the union and company.
“This proposal demonstrates our willingness to provide US Airways with the means to overcome its current crisis,” said Randy Canale, president of District 141, representing more than 4,000 Fleet Service workers at US Airways. “It will also mean real hardship and significant sacrifice for the Fleet workers who are already contributing more than $150 million annually from previous restructurings at US Airways.”
With less than a day remaining before U.S. Bankruptcy Court Judge Stephen Mitchell is scheduled to rule on the 1113c motion to terminate contracts, this latest proposal contains revised terms regarding pay rates, work rules, and contract duration. The District 141 Committee is awaiting the company’s official response to this latest proposal.
Talks between US Airways and the District 141 Committee are expected to continue today in Arlington, VA. Additional bulletins will be posted throughout the day at www.iam141.org and into the evening if necessary.
US Airways Negotiations Update

Discussions between the District 141 Fleet Service Negotiating Committee and US Airways’ management are continuing this afternoon over a company counter-proposal made in response to the IAM proposal delivered to the company late yesterday.
“Our key objective remains preserving as many jobs as possible at a company that is trying to eliminate as many jobs as possible,” said District 141 President Randy Canale. “The battle lines are clearly drawn.”
The effort to bridge the difference between the two proposals will continue this afternoon with the assistance and participation of Transportation General Vice President Robert Roach, Jr., who joined the talks in Arlington, VA today.
