Bankruptcy Court Rejects New UAL-ALPA Deal

Mon. August 22, 2005

January 10, 2005 - United Airlines was dealt a blow in their campaign to terminate employee pension plans when a Chicago, IL bankruptcy judge failed to approve an agreement reached last month between United and the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA). The controversial agreement was predicated on termination of pension plans for all UAL employees groups.

The Machinists Union filed opposition to the to accord because it sought to dictate terms of an IAM agreement.

“The IAM will not allow the company to enter into any agreement that would adversely affect our members,” said General Vice President Robert Roach, Jr. “The judge’s ruling paves the way for more meaningful discussions with United on preserving our members’ pensions.”
