BOEING STRIKES CONTINUE
Workers in Australia reach 100 days of being denied a collective agreement by Boeing and in the U.S. Boeing workers continue to strike for a fair collective agreement.
AUSTRALIA: The 29 workers currently on strike at Boeing in Newcastle, Australia marked their 100th day of being denied the right to choose a collective agreement by holding a protest rally.
Organised by the Australian Workers' Union (AWU), the workers rallied at the office of a local member of parliament who is also a member of the conservative government, which is introducing new draconian labour laws in Australia.
The aircraft maintenance engineers, who are employed to maintain and upgrade the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF)’s FA-18 Hornet jet fighter fleet, have been in dispute with Boeing over the issue of a collective agreement since March 2005.
Meanwhile, in the U.S., over 18,000 Boeing workers continue to strike in Portland, Oregon, Wichita, Kansas and Washington State in support of their demands for a fair collective agreement. The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) is seeking better pensions, stable health care, safe working conditions and job security in its current contract negotiations with Boeing.
