What is the Coalition of Labor Union Women?

CLUWFollowing months of discussion and planning, more than 1200 union women from across the U.S. convened in Chicago, IL on March 12, 1974, to form an organization to address the critical needs of millions of unorganized working women and make unions more responsive to the needs of all working women.  The organization they created is CLUW, whose primary purpose is to serve an entity where working women could share common problems and concerns and develop action programs within the framework of unions to deal effectively with these objectives.

 

Machinists Member Talks Organizing and CLUW on Radio Show

Vickie Cheek, Machinists Union member from LL 1833 was a guest on The Solidarity Effect radio show Friday, February 19th.  An employee of Northwest Airlines, Cheek discussed the on-going organizing campaign with the merging Northwest/Delta airline.  Additionally, Cheek discussed her involvement as a National Executive Board member for the Coalition of Labor Union Women (CLUW) and promised a return appearance in late March.

The Solidarity Effect is heard on 96.3 KNDS every Friday from 9 - 11 a.m. CST.  Hosts Kevin and Heather use the forum to engage guests and listeners in social issues from a working class perspective.

CLUW Convention Highlights

Delegates gathered in Los Angeles, CA for the 15th Bbiennial CLUW Convention.  Executive Assistant Diane Babineaux was elected as a CLUW National Vice President and IAM sister Joyce Ribbert, LL 837A, and Bonnie Polster, LL 1260, both received awards.
