Diane Babineauz, Chief of Staff to the International PresidentMs. Babineaux first came to work for the IAM in 1972. During her career she has accumulated a broad range of experience by working in several areas at IAM headquarters, including the Legislative and Strategic Resources Departments and the International President’s office.

Ms. Babineaux is an active member of both the labor and African-American communities. She is on the IAM’s Board of Directors for Guide Dogs of America. She serves on numerous labor committees: the Coalition of Labor Union Women; the National Democratic Club; the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People; RainbowPUSH Coalition; Labor Council for Latin American Advancement; the Coalition of Black Trade Unionists; the A. Philip Randolph Institute; the National Council of Negro Women; the National Political Congress of Black Women, Inc; the Coalition on Black Civic Participation; the National Urban League; the Conference of Minority Transportation Officials. She is a former Maryland Transportation Commissioner and is also is an honoree and active member of Maryland for Responsive Government.

In January 2000, she was recognized for dedicated service to the labor movement’s Martin Luther King Observance and in 2001 she received the “Rising Star in the Labor Movement” award. In 2003 she was awarded the “Gentle Warrior Award” by the A. Philip Randolph Pullman Porter Museum.

Ms. Babineaux is a life-long resident of the Washington, D.C. area. Ms. Babineaux is married. She has one daughter, Telissha and one grandchild, Taylor. Her father worked for Amtrak and is a retired union member of the Railway Carmen Union, and her grandmother is a retired union member of UNITE-HERE.

Ms. Babineaux’s hobbies include golfing, reading, collecting jazz, oldies music, and classic movies.
