Support Grows for Public Option

Thu. October 22, 2009

A new Washington Post-ABC News survey on health care reform shows support for the public option is rising.

The report shows that while Americans are still divided on the bills currently making their way through the House and Senate, a clear majority, 57 percent, now favor a public insurance option, compared to 52 percent two months ago. Results show support jumps to 76 percent if the public plan could be run by individual states and open only to those who lack affordable coverage options. Supporters agree that having a government-run insurance provider is the best way to bring and keep down overall costs.

Other results include 61 percent opposition to the Senate Finance Committee’s plan to tax health care benefits. And, 71 percent support a provision mandating all Americans buy insurance as long as the government provides subsidies for lower-income families.

I guess our US Government has been running a very decent, low cost, health care plan for many years now, and informed seniors would differ with anyone who suggest that government stay out of our health care.

Gary, you have missed the point of having a public option all together. This great country of ours was bulit on having a choice and free choice. That is all the public option is, is a choice for people to choose if they want to pay the cost. What is wrong with that?? Competition is good. It keeps the cost down and it keeps everyone honest..

I would like to say that Mr. Gary L. Johnson must have been eating at the massion, he has no clue, that there are people out there that are screaming for a cook, they are hungry and they are tired of what they have been served. I say, great job, stay at it. This cook has finally presented a great menu, and is doing what needs to be done, finally! Now if the over endulged will step aside and let the hungry be fed, the world will be a better place. This menu is long overdue!

I do not believe that our US Government can provide a health plan, that will not increase our Nations dept. If you can not cook, stay out of the kitchen. I am also disatisfied what the current health plans have in store for the veterans. Don't change my health plans.
