The House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee approved legislation that would repeal a recently updated National Mediation Board (NMB) voting rule for air and rail workers. The language included in the FAA Reauthorization and Reform Act of 2011 would restore the unfair advantage carriers have enjoyed in union representation elections for more than 75 years.
In 2010 The NMB changed the archaic rule which imposed an automatic “no” vote if a worker did not participate in a union election. The new rule allowed for union representation elections to be decided by a majority of workers who cast ballots.
The FAA bill also omits OSHA protection for Flight Attendants and eliminates mandatory inspections and drug and alcohol testing at foreign repair stations.
The GOP majority on the committee approved the bill by a 34-25 vote.

Well it looks as if the GOP has been bought out.. by the Airlines....After having an unfair advantage for years.. They have again taken away the advantage that gave airline workers a fair and level playing field away...again and sent it back to the airline management who never play fair. Just ask the former NW airline employee\\\'s.Thu. February 17, 2011
Workers have been under attack for 30 yrs since REagan first got elected. We stemmed some of that w/the 2008 election but lost ground in 2010. I hope the Machinists are lobbying the Senate hard to reject this draconian bill and all other similar ones put forth by those American hating fascists in the Republican Party.Thu. February 17, 2011
That is what Republicans do. Hurt working people. The proff is in thier votes. When are the citizens of this country going to stop believing Rush & Fox and other spreaders of lies. Just listen to your Union and pay attention to who is voting for what. Also, if you are a fellow Christian, do you think our Savior is for tax credits for the rich and legislation against working people? Wake up!!!!
