Awaiting the President’s signature is a deeply-flawed FAA Reauthorization bill that will harm air and rail workers' rights to form unions and, in the case of mergers, endanger current union members’ bargaining rights.
An aviation safety and security bill is no place to impose unrelated and controversial labor provisions that will ultimately serve to harm both airline and railroad workers. The proposed Railway Labor Act changes would drastically rewrite a statute that was crafted through labor-management cooperation and has not been changed for over 75 years without the agreement of both employer and employee representatives.
For weeks, the IAM and a diverse coalition of 18 other unions fought daily in Congress to remove the anti-worker provisions and support passage of a clean FAA bill, but our collective focus is now turning toward the White House and a presidential veto.
You can sign a petition on the White House website urging President Barack Obama to veto any FAA Reauthorization bill which includes provisions that endanger workers' contracts and the right to unionize by clicking here.
