Retired District 166 Directing Business Representative Roger Kendrick passed away on October 22, 2009, at his home in Titusville, FL, after a short illness.
Kendrick, 70, was an IAM member for 34 years, and retired in 2000 after a 23-year career as DBR in District 166 in Florida.
DBR Kendrick was instrumental in the development of the Service Contract Act at the Kennedy Space Center and Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. IAM members have worked on the space program nearly since its inception.
“In the 1970s, Roger Kendrick testified before Congress about needed modifications to the Service Contract Act,” said District 166 DBR Johnny Walker. “He helped fashion the Service Contract Act as we know it today, and he was a strong advocate for making sure workers got a fair shake under the Act.”
“Brother Kendrick was a true trade unionist,” said Southern Territory GVP Bob Martinez. “The strong contracts he negotiated set the standard for the Machinists in the space industry and under the Service Contract Act. The members of the IAM in Florida and all those working under the Service Contract Act owe him a debt of gratitude.”
