December 20, 2007 - More than 60 million Americans will spend more than 10 percent of their pre-tax income on health care costs next year, according to a study by Families USA. In addition, more than 17 million Americans will spend more than a quarter of their pre-tax income on health care.
Other key findings:

Between 2000 and 2008, the number of people in families spending more than 10 percent of their pre-tax income on health care costs will have increased by nearly 20 million.

More than 80 percent of people in families spending more than 10 percent of their pre-tax income on health care are insured.

Between 2000 and 2008, the number of people in families spending more than 25 percent of their pre-tax income on health care costs will have increased by 6.2 million.
