March 14, 2008 – Democratic lawmakers are pointing to Democrat Bill Foster’s upset of Republican Jim Oberweis to replace former Speaker Dennis Hastert as proof of the importance of the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) to voters.
According to TheHill.com, Democrats pointed to five mailings and a television ad by Foster that brought up the importance of SCHIP.
President Bush has twice vetoed legislation expanding SCHIP to cover an additional 10 million children.
