NCLB

No Child Left Behind (NCLB) is not the rousing success the Bush administration touted.  Now this law is among the many issues President Obama’s administration is addressing.

In its current form the law has serious shortcomings that allow many students to fall through the cracks. Drastic changes need to be made to ensure the law benefits all working families.

Recommendations for improving NCLB: Use more than test scores to measure student learning and performance,  design, construct, and apply assessment systems so they are appropriate for a diverse student population, and provide effective, targeted assistance to schools correctly identified as needing assistance.

Congress is soon expected to take up the decision on whether to reauthorize NCLB.  Join the fight to ensure Congress doesn’t reauthorize a form of NCLB that fails many of this country’s students.  NCLB needs to be reworked to ensure a proper education for all Americans, or the law needs to be scrapped.
