First Agreement At Strippit
New IAM members for the Electrical Assembly group at Strippit in Akron, NY ratified a first agreement recently. The new three year accord features wage increases of 3% each in the second two years of the contract and provides an increased contribution to the 401k of 50 cents immediately and an additional 5 cents in the next two years.

Explosion Kills IAM Member in West Virginia
IAM members are mourning the death of one of their own from an explosion in the workplace. Barry Withrow, a member of Local 636, District 34, died on August 28 in an explosion at the Bayer CropScience plant in Institute, WV. A second member was seriously injured in the blast, which sent a fireball hundreds of feet in the air and shattered windows far from the plant.

Ohio Local Holds 17th Annual Ride for the Guide
With thunderstorms nipping at their boot heels, more than 300 riders took part in the 17th Annual Ride for the Guide on June 28. The event, hosted by Local 1297 in Ashland, OH, raised more than $10,000 to benefit the Guide Dogs of America (GDA).
Labor Statement On GAO Report
We are writing to express our strong support for the Boeing KC-767 as the refueling tanker for the U.S. Air Force.
By sustaining Boeing’s protest of the flawed award to the Northrop Grumman/EADS Airbus tanker, the Government Accountability Office (GAO), showed the KC-767 to be the clear winner in the competition, and, as such, the refueling tanker contract should be awarded to Boeing without delay.
IAM, Connecticut Lawmakers Applaud GAO Report
The Connecticut Congressional delegation joined with Machinists union members and other labor representatives this week to celebrate the Government Accounting Office’s (GAO) report that cited serious flaws in the refueling tanker competition that led to a French-built Airbus being chosen over a U.S-manufactured Boeing 767.
Machinists, BIW Reach Tentative
Details of the agreement are being distributed to IAM members at all locations for review. The final offer will be presented to members on Sunday, May 18 at the Augusta Civic Center in Augusta, ME, where members will then vote to accept or reject the offer and take a strike vote.
The IAM represents approximately 3,400 shipbuilders at BIW, including fitters, welders, painters, electricians, mechanics and other classifications.

Members at Local 2184 in Lansing, MI have voted overwhelming to ratify a new three- year contract with Pratt & Whitney AutoAir. The agreement guarantees wage increases of 3.5 percent in the first two years and a 3.25 percent increase in the third year, as well as a $2,500 signing bonus.
