DL 4 And S6 Set Up Joint Program At BIW

I.A.M. C.R.E.S.T  Instructors Michael Hinthorn and Steve Fowee provided a three-day site specific classroom and hands-on training setting up a Joint Labor / Management Safety and Health Committee Training Program at the Bath Iron Works facility.  The program emphasizes the importance of joint relationships.
 
Participants learned by working together in small groups to develop the necessary key elements and components for a proactive safety committee.  This included organizational structure; identifying committee roles, responsibilities and employee involvement.
 
Representatives from BIW and the union drafted a joint mission statement outlining their joint commitments to safety and the employees of BIW by; defining improved overall communications, identifying training and on-going training requirements for the committee and sub-committees through organizational and process techniques.  Participants developed a written plan for the joint committee that includes operating procedures, roles and responsibilities, employee involvement, reporting and problem solving processes.

Union Representatives: IAM Grand Lodge Representative Bill Rudis and IAM Safety and Health Chairperson David Dow.

Management Representatives: Vice President Operations Dave Clark and Director Environmental Health and Safety Dan Nadeau.

Class Participants: John Acker, Don Bowen, John Connor, David Dow, Jim Favreau, Don Fournier, Marc Lindvall, John McCarthy, Rodney Michaud, Dan Nadeau, Matt Reid, Stephen Stone and Arlene Taylor.
