Kalaski Award for distinguished and effective communication in promoting the mission of the labor movement. |
District 26 Organizer John Harrity was recently chosen by both chambers of the Connecticut General Assembly to serve on a pair of commissions aimed at creating and preserving Connecticut jobs.
The Speaker of Connecticut’s House of Representatives, Chris Donovan, tapped Harrity as a representative of labor to serve on the State Jobs Corps Task Force. The Task Force will investigate and deliver recommendations to the Connecticut General Assembly on how to implement a state-level jobs corps, such as was developed during the 1930s by the Roosevelt administration, to put unemployed workers back to work.
Harrity has also been selected by State Senate President Don Williams to serve a four-year term representing labor on the Governor's Council on Economic Competitiveness and Technology.
“The Connecticut General Assembly is aware of what we in the IAM have known for years,” said IAM Eastern Territory GVP Lynn D. Tucker, Jr., “and that is, if you need someone with expertise in supporting and maintaining jobs for working families, then John Harrity is your man.”
Harrity has worked as Director of GrowJobsCT, a coalition of labor, business and community interests, along with concerned elected officials, all of whom work together to preserve and expand manufacturing - and manufacturing jobs - in Connecticut.
