Maryland Democratic Congresswoman Donna Edwards, whose district includes the labor college, was the keynote speaker and was awarded an honorary degree from the college. The IAM had one of the largest groups in the 2010 class and NFFE/IAM Local 2196 member John Chapman had the honor of leading the procession of Bachelor of Arts graduates.
Local 743 member Karen Blanchard won both a Distinguished Paper Award and a special Presidential Award for her senior project: “The Outsourcing of Military Manufacturing, Is It Good For America?”

“Our graduates did an outstanding job this year and everyone should be proud of their achievements,” said General Secretary-Treasurer Warren Mart, who attended the ceremony. “Education is our union’s most valuable resource, and the work our members do at the National Labor College, in partnership with our William W. Winpisinger Education Center, means more of our members have the opportunity to earn a college degree.”
The NLC coordinates their degree program with the Winpisinger Center, which allows IAM students to use the Center for part of their course work. Many of the Winpisinger Center’s programs are accredited and can be used for college-degree programs.
