John Ziemet has been a dues paying auto mechanic of District 6, Local Lodge 1238 in Dubuque, Iowa for 34 years. John was unjustifiably terminated by his employer Kruse Warthan Auto Plaza, who had recently acquired the business.

The Union filed a grievance and a Unfair Labor Practice against the employer. During the investigation the employer came to the realization that they had unjustly terminated Mr. Ziemet, and therefore, the employer asked what he could do to resolve the issue.
District 6 Business Representative Wayne Laufenberg negotiated an $18,000.00 settlement for Ziemet.
Laufenberg proudly said, “It does pay to belong to the Union. It also pays to have good contract language like the "just cause" provisions our members enjoy."
