District 5 wins at Grand Forks Air Force Base

Mon. September 29, 2008

IAM District 5 continued their winning ways with an organizing victory at Grand Forks Air Force Base in North Dakota bringing 6 new members into the IAM. Our new members work in the Precision Measuring Equipment Laboratory calibrating electronic equipment for the U.S. Air Force at Goldbelt Falcon LLC.

District 5 Organizer Kevin Murch praised Jim Hogoboom from Local 2525 saying, "Jim has been a real asset for the IAM picking up leads at several locations for us recently. He works for Yulista at Minot Air Force Base in the PMEL there and played a key role in generating interest at Goldbelt Falcon. He helped in arranging the initial meeting with Directing Business Representative Dennis Walworth."

According to Murch, our new members are very interested in the value of an IAM contract and higher pay.  It has been 7 years since they have had a raise.  They were excited to find out about the IAM's excellent track record and experience with organizing under the Service Contract Act.

IAM Midwest Territory General Vice President Philip J. Gruber praised the organizing efforts by District 5 saying, "DBR Dennis Walworth, Organizer Kevin Murch and Jim Hogoboom have worked very hard and traveled long distances to have a very successful year organizing in the Dakotas.  We appreciate their dedication to growing our great union."
