Tue. December 16, 2008

IAM District 10 delivered a good first contract for our 81 new members at Spartech Plastics in Portage, WI. The contract was ratified on November 19, 2008. The term of the new agreement between Spartech and Distrit 10 in Milwaukee, WI will be for just over 2 years.

Business Representative Don Griffin praised our new IAM bargaining committee at Spartech saying, "It was because of their hard work and dedication that we were able to bring back a contract worthy of ratification."  Griffin outlined the new agreement saying, "Our new members wanted to keep what they had and we achieved much more." Significant improvements included a wage increase of 30 cents for the balance of 2008, a 1.9% increase for 2009, a 25 cent across the board increase in 2010, a union security clause, seniorty rights, a grievance procedure with handling on company time, vacation improvements and a cap on the employee portion of health insurance premiums.

IAM Midwest Territory General Vice President Philip J. Gruber praised District 10 saying, "We sincerely appreciate the hard work and dedication of Directing Business Representative Mike Hornby and Business Representative Don Griffin. We welcome our new members at Spartech into the IAM family and congratulate them on their successful negotiations."
