Mechanics Local 701 in Countryside, IL had two organizing wins recently bringing 8 new members into the IAM. Our new members work at Ruan Transportation in East Chicago, IN and at First Student in Batavia, IL.
According to Local 701 Business Representative Armando Arreola the 4 truck mechanics at Ruan wanted the guarantees a Mechanics Local 701 contract brings. Arreola proudly said, "These mechanics were very interested in joining Local 701. Word spreads when you have good things to offer."
BR Arreola continued saying, "The First Student win is one of a growing list of First Student bus mechanics joining our great union. Our 4 new members there want better wages, the security of a union contract, pension and health benefits."
IAM Midwest Territory General Vice President Philip J. Gruber praised Local 701 saying, "Directing Business Representative Dennis Jawor, BR Armando Arreola and other Local 701 representatives organize continuously. We sincerely appreciate their hard work and dedication to growing the IAM."
