Machinists Union Endorses Illinois Governor Pat Quinn

Wed. November 25, 2009

 For Immediate Release

The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) formally announced its endorsement of Illinois Governor Pat Quinn for reelection this morning, praising his commitment to maintain and grow good paying jobs for Illinois families.

“Governor Quinn has a clear record of supporting our members in their time of need. When Maytag was threatening to put thousands of Machinists out of work at their Galesburg and Herrin, IL facilities, Pat Quinn fought hard to keep those jobs in Illinois,” said IAM Midwest Territory General Vice President Philip J. Gruber. “Now it’s time for the nearly 50,000 IAM members in Illinois to support him in the Primary Election on February 2, 2010.

He understands it takes good paying jobs in Illinois to energize our economic recovery.

The IAM is among the nation’s largest industrial trade unions, representing nearly 700,000 active and retired members under more than 5,000 contracts in aerospace, manufacturing, transportation, shipbuilding and defense-related industries. For more information, visit www.goiam.org.
