Illinois Machinists perfect record in 2009 at Quincy Compressor

Wed. February 03, 2010

In the mid 1990's Quincy Compressor and Local 822 began their High Performance Work Organization (HPWO) partnership. After a couple of years the partnership was idle. But in 2003 it was picked up and revitalized.

The HPWO Partnerships process is primarily about building on common interests that labor and management have in the workplace. Safety is one of those interests where labor and management have the most in common.

At the end of December 2009 Local 822 members at Quincy Compressor recorded "0" (zero) safety incidents. To recognize this fact the employer ran a full page advertisement in the local newspaper congratulating all employees. Notice that the IAM logo is prominently featured with the company logo, an indicator to the community that the company and the union are engaged in a different relationship rather than a strictly adversarial traditional relationship.

Last year the HPWO partnership at Quincy Compressor also won a state labor management award for their partnering efforts.
