IAM members of Local 2362 at Merrill Manufacturing Corporation in Merrill, Wisconsin have been out of work since March 24 when the company forced them out on strike. The company claimed economic hardship from the recession, but demanded more concessions than were necessary to get them through the recession.
IAM members agreed to make sacrifices to help the company. In return, they asked not to pay for more than was necessary to get the company through the recession and the right to reopen negotiations if the company recovered faster than expected and concessions were no longer needed.
Merrill responded by making additional changes at the last minute and imposing the terms of the outrageous contract on employees. The IAM has filed unfair labor practice charges in response.
