We are in the middle of an economic crisis… in fact, a Grave Recession. What we need are JOBS NOW! Thousands of working men and women in the Janesville area have felt the terrible pain of job loss when their workplace closed.
That is why the Machinists Union, the Wisconsin State AFL-CIO, United Auto Workers Local 95 and the Rock County Labor Council will sponsor a “JOBS NOW” rally at 5 p.m. on Sunday, September 5, 2010 at the Laborfest Grounds in Janesville, WI.
“The same economic situation and jobs crisis is evident in every Midwest state,” said Philip J. Gruber, General Vice President for the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Midwest territory. “The Midwest states have lost over 1 million manufacturing jobs in just the last 10 years. The job loss numbers triple, if you include the states of Michigan, Ohio, Kansas and Colorado.”
The guest speakers for the event will be IAMAW International President R. Thomas Buffenbarger, IAMAW General Vice President Philip J. Gruber, U.S. Senator Russ Feingold, Milwaukee Mayor and candidate for Wisconsin Governor Tom Barrett, Wisconsin State AFL-CIO President David Newby, Wisconsin State AFL-CIO Secretary Treasurer Phil Neuenfeldt and Speaker of the Wisconsin State Assembly Mike Sheridan.
JOBS NOW!, a comprehensive strategy to put millions of unemployed Americans back to work immediately, calls for a second stimulus package, the crafting of a national industrial policy that will revitalize the manufacturing sector, investing in our transportation infrastructure and providing more skills training.
The Janesville Laborfest “JOBS NOW” rally will be held at the Laborfest main stage on the UAW Local 95 grounds located at 1795 Lafayette Street in Janesville, WI.
