District 66 wins big for Wisconsin members

Thu. November 11, 2010

Local Lodge 1115 of District Lodge 66 recently arbitrated contract language in regards to vacation benefits for seasonal workers represented at the Fort McCoy military base and won a significant settlement. The contractor BSA/LB&B Joint Venture refused to honor vacation accrual benefits for these members who perform grounds maintenance at the U.S Army base in Fort McCoy, WI.

The arbitration delivered a complete win for our members. The settlement involved back pay for 2009 and current vacation benefits for 2010 going forward. The arbitrator sustained the Union’s position and awarded all vacation benefits for these 14 Union members and any new employees in the future. The settlement amounted to over $35,000 in vacation benefits plus future vacation benefits.

“We are pleased with the arbitrator’s decision and this shows the true value of a Collective Bargaining Agreement and representation of the Machinists Union,” said Rick Mickschl, Directing Business Representative of District Lodge 66. "We represent over 100 members at Fort McCoy military base working for the U.S. Army"
