July 17, 2007 - IAM District 19 and its Class 1 Coalition partners, the Transportation Communications Union, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and Transport Workers Union, today reached tentative agreements with the National Carriers Conference Committee (NCCC). Each union will ratify their agreement independently. The tentative agreements cover four major crafts – Machinists, Carmen, Clerks and Electricians.
The IAM Negotiating Committee believes the tentative agreement addresses the membership’s major concerns and recommends its ratification. Details of the tentative agreement are being prepared for distribution to the membership and will be posted on the District 19 website, www.iamdl19.org, when completed. Ratification voting is expected to be completed by mid-September 2007.
The NCCC represents major freight rail carriers, including Burlington Northern Santa Fe, CSX, Kansas City Southern, Norfolk Southern and Union Pacific. Negotiations began in November 2004 for agreements that became amendable on January 1, 2005. The tentative agreement covers 7,800 IAM members.
