Boeing Workers Reject Concessions
at a Time When the Company is Reaping Huge Profits

The International Association of Machinists continue to prepare for their upcoming strike against the Boeing Company. The strike is set to being at 12:01 AM on Wednesday morning. The areas affected are Huntington Beach, Torrance, Fort Edwards and Vandenberg Air Force Base in California, and Cape Canaveral in Florida. In addition, two other Boeing locations have voted to strike the company. IAM members in Decatur and Huntsville, both in Alabama, voted to reject Boeing’s final offer and authorized a strike. This brings to eight the total number of Boeing facilities that are poised to strike at the same time.

The main issues are the removal of a cap on out-of pocket medical costs, and the removal of retiree medical coverage for any future employees.  Larry Olinger, President of IAM Local 2024 in Huntington Beach, said “We are extremely disappointed that Boeing has chosen to put us in this position.  They just reported a billion dollars of net income from the last quarter, and they respond by asking us to vote against our children.  Our children, and the children of our neighbors in this community deserve to have a chance to retire with dignity, and we have no intention of agreeing to make them suffer.  This is America, we don’t vote to hurt our kids.”
