Joe Rocha, a 23 year member of Local 1528, has been appointed to serve jointly on the Equal Opportunity / Disability Commission and Human Rights Commission by the Mayor and City Council of Modesto, California.  General Vice-President Lee Pearson said, "I want to extend our congratulations to Joe for the hard work that has been rewarded by this appointment.  It is a wonderful opportunity for Brother Rocha to reach out and help all people who need a hand.  Hopefully the experience he has been gained through his duties as a leader in his local, and his training at Placid Harbor will serve him well".

Joe has been employed at Silgan Containers since August of 1982, and joined the IAM on September of that year.  He has served the membership of Local 1528 as shop steward, Chief shop steward, negotiating committee member and on the Local Lodge Executive Board.  Brother Rocha has attended several calsses at the Winpisinger Center, and has show tremendous dedication to the duties that leadership in the union require.

District 190 Business Representative Gilbert Gonzalez said, "This proves that good things happen to good people.  Joe has worked tirelessly for the people at his site, and Equal Rights issues have always been a passion with him.  He will do a great job on this commission, and the IAM has one of its' own in a position to help on a wider scale.  I really am proud of Joe, and wish him all the best".
