Sacramento Classic Auto Show a Big Success for Guide Dogs

Mon. November 19, 2007

The New Horizons Retirees Club and the International Association of Machinists & Aerospace Workers hosted their 8th annual Sacramento Classic Auto Show, benefiting Guide Dogs of America, on September 15, 2007.  The event was held at Hagan Park in Rancho Cordova, California, and netted over $22,000 for the Machinists “pet” charity!

Car and truck classes varied by year and category, plus Pro-Street and Street-Rods, and were judged in the day-long event for People’s Choice, Best of Show, Judge’s Choice, 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes.

Event organizer and President of New Horizons, Bob Gregory, extends a heartfelt “thank you” to all the volunteers and participants, including the Western Regional Office, District 725, Rocket and Guided Missile Local Lodge 946, New Horizons Retirees Club members and all the friends and family who helped make this year another great success.

It takes approximately $38,000 to raise and train a guide dog, but they are free to the blind or visually impaired recipient.  Along with the time and dedication of the GDA staff, come countless volunteer hours for puppy raising, training and fundraisers like the car show, which generate the sole source of funding for Guide Dogs of America.
