California's 4th Congressional District, which spans Northern California along the eastern side of the state from the Oregon border past South Lake Tahoe, will elect a new Congressman on November 4th, 2008. The district has a population of nearly 640,000.
Today, the IAM's Machinist Non-Partisan Political League issued a check to Retired USAF Lieutenant Colonel Charlie Brown, who narrowly lost the race in 2006. The IAM, through MNPL donations, assists candidates who promote issues that are important to working families - and our members. Lt. Col. Brown believes America can create and keep good jobs by investing in education, technology, an updated infrastructure, energy independence, and fair trade. He believes our members deserve a stable and fair retirement, supports veterans (he donates 5% of all donations received to veterans' facilities) and thinks healthcare should be attainable and affordable to all Americans.
Charlie graduated from the US Air Force Academy in 1972, subsequently serving 26 years in the Air Force in conflicts from Vietnam to Desert Storm. He obtained his Master's Degree in Aviation Management from Embry Riddle University in 1985.
In a meeting at the Western Territory's Regional Office in Folsom, Charlie expressed appreciation for the donation, and a firm resolve to fight for the Employee Free Choice Act, creation of good jobs through green energy innovations, and a continued dialogue with labor on issues important to our members.
