Tue. October 07, 2008

Grand Lodge Special Representative Robert "Bobby" Martinez was presented an award by Melissa Campbell, of the Arizona State Council of Machinists this month.

Robert "Bobby" Martinez, Grand Lodge Special Representative for the Western Territory, was honored at this month's meeting of the Arizona State Council of Machinists for over nineteen years of service and commitment to the council and its members.

Brother Martinez helped establish the Arizona State Political Action Committee in the early 1990's, served as Director and was the second senior person on the council.  During his tenure, he helped organize throughout the state of Arizona, playing an instrumental role in the growth of  Local Lodge 519 and Local Lodge 933.  He established organizing and political goals every year for the state and help to facilitate the success of those locals.  In the mid-nineties, he also helped garner full participation from all locals in the state in council activities.

GLSR Martinez spoke to the delegates about some of the difficulties faced during periods of layoffs and company closures.  Despite that, and a decline at that time from approximately 50 delegates to 15, he remained committed to the mission of the council and his experience and guidance proves invaluable to this day.

"Congratulations to Brother Martinez for this recognition of his outstanding efforts over the years," stated Western Territory GVP Lee Pearson.  "That is precisely the kind of dedication that can make such a difference for us legislatively, and translate directly down to benefits for working families."
