Sister Box joined the Territory staff as Education Representative, effective May 1, 2001.
Marie became a member of IAM Woodworkers Local Lodge W98 in 1979, and served as the President of that Lodge for seven years. Since that Lodge does not have a full time Business Representative, she was responsible for all contract issues until the final step, along with the following responsibilities: Chair of Grievance Committee; Negotiating Committee; Legislative Committee; serviced several collective bargaining agreements; and trained stewards. She has served as the elected Vice President of the California Conference of Machinists in 2000, and in 2001 was elected to the position of its President.
Sister Box holds an AA Degree from the College of the Redwoods, a BA Degree & Secondary Teaching Credential from Humboldt State University, as well as a MA Degree from the same university. In April 2000, she was requested to serve on the OSHA Standards Board, and was appointed in June 2000 by then-Governor Davis to the Industrial Welfare Commission (Wage Board for On-Site Construction, Drilling, Logging, and Mining Industries).
