Bobby Martinez joined IAM Local 933 in Tucson, AZ, when he hired into Hughes Aircraft (now Raytheon), as an Electronic Technician in 1985. He soon began his career as an activist, becoming a shop steward and Central Labor Council delegate in 1987. Bobby has since held many positions, such as Auditor, Chief Shop Steward, Negotiating Committee Chairperson, Local Lodge President, and ultimately he was elected as Direcing Business Representative. In 2003, Bobby was appointed to the IAM Blue Ribbon commission by IP Buffenbarger, has served as a Delegate to the 33rd and the 36th Grand Lodge Conventions, and the 2005 AFL-CIO Convention. Bobby joined the Western Territory staff as a Grand Lodge Special Representative, on April 1, 2007. GVP Allen promoted Martinez to the position of Administrative Assistant on July 1, 2009.
Bobby has served in several positions on the Arizona State Council of Machinists, including trustee, auditor, and Director of MNPL where he helped create their first PAC committee. He has on the Executive Board for the State of Arizona AFL-CIO, and Chairperson of the newly formed Pima Area Labor Federation until 2006.
Brother Martinez has earned numerous awards, including “Citizen Activist of the Year” from the Arizona Citizen Action, and the “Coraźon de Justicia” award for human rights work in southern Arizona. Bobby has received the IAM's General Excellence award, “organizer of the year,” and the award for Political Excellence. Bobby has also been involved with community activities such as: The Cesar Chavez Holiday Coalition, Regional Transportation Committee, and served on the Board of Directors for the United Way of Southern Arizona.
He has received training in Process Improvement, Lean Manufacturing, Leadership Psychology, Multi-Cultural Leadership Development, Labor Law and Arbitration, Workplace ergonomics, and lay ministry. He has graduated from Tech school in Industrial and Communication electronics, and earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the National Labor College.
Bobby enjoys spending time and attending church with his family, reading, and playing outdoor sports. Bobby has been married for 20 years to his beautiful wife Lori and they have three children Adam, Ashley, and Robbie.
