The 2011 IAM Automotive Conference is scheduled for October 15-18 at the Hilton Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Registration will take place Saturday, October 15, from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. and again on Sunday morning from 8:00 to 9:00. The Conference begins Sunday, October 16, at 9:00 a.m. and will conclude no later than 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 18.

While the IAM is vigorously working with Congress to fund an active
space program, the Membership Services arm of the Retirees, Community,
and Membership Services Department is working with District Lodge 166 to
assist at-risk members at the Kennedy Space Center.

May 20, 2010 - During this year's Legislative Conference a group of Machinists from NASA made their voices heard on Capitol Hill about the importance of continuing the space program.
The Boeing Co. claims it will create at least 150 new jobs somewhere in
South Carolina when it opens a parts fabrication plant to supply the
controversial 787 assembly line being built in Charleston, SC.
More than 700 Machinists gathered in Houston this week for a rally to
urge supporters of the U.S. manned space program to send a message that
could be heard all the way back in Washington, D.C.

Airbus parent company EADS ( European Aeronautic Defence and Space
Company) announced this week it will compete without a U.S. partner to
build the next generation of aerial refueling tankers for the U.S. Air
Force. Airbus/EADS previously dropped out of the tanker competition and
said it would not bid without a U.S. partner.

President Barack Obama’s proposed budget promises to send thousands of
U.S. space workers to a new frontier: the unemployment line.
The CEO of Boeing’s Commercial Airplane division, Jim Albaugh, sat down recently for a lengthy interview
with Seattle Times reporter Dominic Gates and promptly took credit for
driving the decision to build a second 787 assembly line in South
Carolina. Albaugh then admitted that the company had outsourced far too
much work and declared his first preference for a location to build
future aircraft was in the Puget Sound.
“Over one thousand highly-skilled aircraft mechanics at Air Canada will
be laid off this April and the company doesn’t give a damn,” said
District 140 Regional Assistant Directing General Chairperson Fred
Hospes.
Hawker Beechcraft announced this week that more than 250 high-skill,
high-paying jobs will be eliminated when it closes a factory in Salina,
KS. A company spokesperson confirmed that half the jobs would go to a
facility in Mexico and half to outside vendors.
