Korea FTA to Cost U.S. Jobs and Big Money
Any alleged benefits from the Korea-U.S. free trade agreement (KORUS), which was signed into law last week by President Barack Obama will certainly come at a high cost.
A Sad Day for the FTAs
October 13, 2011 - Although the labor movement stormed Capitol Hill with their voices and their passion to just say NO, Congress passed free trade agreements with Korea, Colombia and Panama.

New Government Plan to Fix Economy: Import Shoppers
On the eve of voting on trade deals that will send even more North American jobs overseas, the Washington Post reports that “for the first time, lawmakers, businesses and even White House officials are courting consumers from cash-rich countries such as China, India and Brazil to fill the nation’s shopping malls and pick up the slack for penny-pinching Americans.”
Machinists Union Opposes Job-Killing Free Trade Pacts
Washington -- “There are 159,000 good reasons why Congress should oppose the South Korea Free Trade Agreement. That’s how many U.S. workers will lose their jobs if this deeply-flawed trade accord is implemented,” said International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) President Tom Buffenbarger at a Washington D.C. rally to oppose the South Korea, Colombia and Panama Free Trade Agreements.
October 4 is D-Day for Lethal Trade Accords
Congress is set to vote October 4 on three seriously-flawed free trade agreements (FTAs) with South Korea, Colombia and Panama. Should the pending FTAs negotiated by the Bush administration pass, more than 159,000 middle-class jobs will be shipped overseas.
View a quick overview of each FTA, then take action - encourage your co-workers, family and friends to tell Congress to vote "NO" on the South Korea, Colombia and Panama Free Trade Agreements.
When Will We Get Our Fair Trade?
In 1994, Congress introduced the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) as the solution for jobs expansion and prosperity for the American people. Seventeen years later, NAFTA has yet to live up to its promise. Costing Americans 682,900 in lost or displaced jobs, the trade deficit with Mexico stands at a mind-boggling $97.2 billion.
As Congress attempts to pass the largest FTA since NAFTA in the form of the Korean – US Free Trade Agreement (KORUS), it's time to compare the proposed agreement with what was learned during the nation's debacle with NAFTA.

Korea Trade Agreement Would Subsidize North Korea Government
WASHINGTON -- In 2004, Hyundai inked one of the best land deals in history. For a mere $12 million, the South Korean car company secured the rights to 50 years of use on over 41,000 square miles of industrial space -- $292 per square mile, only about 10 percent higher than the rate the U.S. paid France under the Louisiana Purchase.

No Freedom in Colombia Free Trade Agreement
The Colombia Free Trade Agreement is a betrayal of fundamental human rights. Last year, 51 trade unionists were slain in the streets of Colombia. Over 2,850 trade unionists were murdered in the last 25 years. And so far in 2011, 17 trade unionists have been killed. These atrocities, combined with Colombia's negligent child labor enforcement laws, reaffirm the IAM's resistance to a free trade agreement with one of the most corrupt and volatile governments of the world.
Hindery Argues for Sound Free Trade Agreements
The only standard that should be used to govern U.S. leaders’ decision to pass free trade agreements (FTAs) with South Korea, Colombia and Panama is whether they are in the best interest of American workers and the U.S. economy, says Leo Hindery, Chairman of the Smart Globalization Initiative at the New America Foundation, in an op-ed published on The Huffington Post.
