WRSA Members Overwhelmingly Ratify UP Pact

Amtrak Makes First Retroactive Wage Payments May 9
TCU Carmen and ARASA Maintenance of Way and Maintenance of Equipment members are among some 9,000 employees who will receive retroactive wage payments on Friday, May 9, 2008 as part of the recently signed union agreements. Amtrak's Kummant Refuses Rail Labor Proposal
Amtrak President Alexander Kummant is not willing to consider anything further regarding the exclusion in the recently signed contracts of anyone who retired or died prior to December 1, 2007 from receiving retroactive pay. 1. Union Leaders of the Future Scholarship
May 1, 2008—Embracing its mission to enhance the value of union membership and support a stronger labor movement, Union Privilege has developed a scholarship program to help more women and people of color become union leaders. The program provides annual awards up to $3,000 to help future leaders with the cost of continuing their education or training in order to pursue their union career goals and leadership skills. 2. Annual Women's Summer Schools Schedule Announced
The annual Union Women Summer Schools are sponsored by the United Association for Labor Education (UALE) in cooperation with the AFL-CIO and the Coalition of Labor Union Women. At these programs union women learn and hone skills, receive new information, and network with union sisters from across their region. More »
3. CLUW Is the AFL-CIO Support Group for Women Union Members
The Coalition of Labor Union Women—CLUW—is the national women's organization within the labor movement. Members are on the frontline, empowering working women to become leaders in their unions and encouraging them to make a difference on the job and, most importantly, in their own lives. CLUW values are simple: Solidarity, involvement, dignity and justice. The coalition has chapters nationwide and many strong programs to particpate in. Local 1315 Stands with Union Brothers & Sisters at L.A. Rally
Joining a major rally April 17 on the docks at the Port of Los Angeles were several members of TCU Local 1315, reports President Maggie Cook. The action was about the fight for middle class jobs, the battle to organize workers and the importance of voting in order to win the “2008 Fight for Good Jobs.” Find out more.

Three New Plans Under GA-23111 from UnitedHealthcare for Retirees Not Eligible for Medicare
Open enrollment has begun for United Healthcare's GA-23111 for former railroad employees who are not eligible for Medicare and their eligible dependents. Featured for 2008 are three new benefit plans which provide new options with different costs and plan designs allowing individuals to select the plan best suited for their needs. Because of the addition of the new plans, the open enrollment period will run for two months, from April 1 through May 31. Coverage is effective June 1. Click here to find out more.
