Virginia Aviation Mechanics Vote IAM ‘Yes’

Aviation workers and mechanics at Naval Air Station Oceana in Virginia Beach, VA voted overwhelmingly to join the IAM.

The IAM Southern Territory scored another big win when 210 aviation workers and mechanics at Naval Air Station Oceana in Virginia Beach, VA voted overwhelmingly for IAM representation. The workers are employed by AECOM, a contractor on the base.

“When workers in Service Contract see the strong contracts the IAM negotiates, the IAM is an easy choice,” said IAM Southern Territory General Vice President Mark Blondin. “Congratulations to our team in Norfolk for the successful vote, and now we will negotiate a good contract for our newest members.”

Southern Territory Grand Lodge Representative Joe Greaser and Norfolk, VA District 74 Directing Business Representative Larry Young led the organizing effort. Military base workers employed under service contracts across the South have been voting for the IAM in a trend that has added thousands of workers to the union in recent months.
