Celebrate Women’s Equality Day on August 26, 2016

Celebrate Women’s Equality Day on August 26, 2016. This day commemorates the passing of the 19th amendment in 1920 which secures women’s right to vote. The battle for women’s rights formally began in 1848 at the first Women’s Rights Convention in Seneca Falls, New York. At the convention Women advocated for Women’s rights. This campaign continued until the passage of the Voting Rights Act and still continues today. Women’s Equality Day recognizes this important achievement but also inspires continuing efforts for Women’s rights. Women have made great advancements but still have a long battle for complete equality. Women’s committees are encouraged to target August 26th as an opportunity to educate members on the disparity in women’s rights.
