Local 873’s Women’s Committee Receives Unprecedented Award

LL873AwardOn March 15, past and present members of the Women’s Committee from Local Lodge 873 received, “The Champions for Women’s Heath Award,” presented to them from Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin at the Monona Terrace in Madison.  This was the first time this award has ever been presented to any person or group.

The committee received this honor in recognition for supporting Contraceptive Equity on the State and Federal levels, and for their efforts to have contraceptives covered for all employees in Horicon through the health care plans.

Emily Jeglum, Janice Tobak, Judy Amos, Marilyn Rieman and Cindy Haselow traveled to Madison to accept this award on behalf o the Women’s Committee and the members of Local 873.

At the luncheon, they were guests of honor and seated at the head table along with Attorney General Peg Laughtenslager and James Stewart, CEO of Planned Parenthood and presenter of the award.  Janice Tobak gave the acceptance speech and the sisters were given a standing ovation from the three hundred plus people in attendance and personal congratulations from Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle.

The day’s events included guest speakers, workshops, lunch and award ceremony, march to the capitol, group visits with legislators and a reception with elected officials.

This was a very rewarding and powerful experience for all those who attended.
