The Senate today passed a bipartisan five-year FAA Reauthorization Bill, sending the legislation to the White House for President Trump’s signature. The bill passed overwhelmingly in large part due to a coordinated lobbying effort between IAM members and its legislative team.
“I want to congratulate our legislative team for the countless hours they spent behind the scenes lobbying for this bill to be passed,” said Transportation General Vice President Sito Pantoja. “I also want to thank our members for all the calls and visits they made to their senators, urging them to vote this bill through. This bill will provide our members with the funding necessary to perform their jobs safely.”
Airline labor highlights of the bill include protection for customer service agents from physical abuse by requiring airlines to implement an assault prevention and response plan within 90 days as well as provide additional training. The bill also sets a minimum ten-hour rest period for flight attendants, equaling pilots’ minimum rest and provides funding for aircraft maintenance education.
