“This is your opportunity to actively participate in the legislative process and promote our union’s legislative agenda,” IAM International President Bob Martinez told delegates.

Delegates canvassed Capitol Hill and lobbied elected officials on matters vital to working Americans, such as workers’ rights, retirement security, healthcare and trade.

With the November election rapidly approaching, delegates mapped out a plan to get out the vote like never before. Guest speakers included several legislators who have proven to be friends of labor. Among them was Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) who reminded the group of an old adage.

“Change doesn’t come from Washington, it comes to Washington,” said Booker.

The delegates also canvassed Capitol Hill to lobby their members of Congress on issues vital to working men and women. The IAM joined with hundreds of other activists in a rally outside the White House to deny Norwegian Air International access to the U.S. aviation market. The Department of Transportation proposal will allow the foreign carrier to steal U.S. jobs.
