Rebuilding America's Twin Towers
At the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, peace and prosperity are our twin objectives. Achieving them will not be easy.
Peace will only come when states renounce terrorism as a weapon in their arsenals. Prosperity will only return when AmericaÕs workers receive the pay raises they deserve.
The routes we must travel will be hard and long. They will involve great sacrifice, sacrifices that must be shared equally.
We must guard against the war profiteers and corporate executives who would use this great national tragedy to line their own pockets.
And we must lobby our governments-federal, state and local-to provide relief to the economic and military casualties that are certain to come.
But, if we work together as trade unionists, if we work with our employers, if we work with our government agencies, if we seek solutions and not scapegoats in this time of tragedy, then we will come through this time with our colors flying.
Past generation of Americans have faced equally daunting challenges and met them by remaining united. We can and will follow their example.
