Check Out the Social Security Calculator

Americans now have a valuable tool to help decide who’s telling the truth about Social Security.

The new Social Security calculator (http://democrats.senate.gov/ss/calc.html) is the fastest way yet to answer the question that President Bush has been avoiding since he unveiled his plan to privatize Social Security:

How much is this plan going to cost me?

Just enter your age and average salary, and the calculator automatically shows how much you would get in traditional Social Security benefits. More importantly, it shows how much you lose under the President’s privatization plan.

The side-by-side comparison quickly cuts through the rhetoric and shows that average Americans lose big under the Bush privatization plan.

“No matter how you cut it, the Bush Social Security Privatization Plan loses money for people – but younger workers lose the most,” said Sen. Charles Schumer (D-NY) one of several Senate Democrats who introduced the Social Security calculator.
