Today is Our Day

November 2, Election Day, is finally here. It is the day where action will take the place of words. After all the speeches, phone calls and commercials, the final outcome rests with who shows up to vote. Union members cast about 25% of all the votes in every election. We have the power to decide today’s contest if we get to the polls like never before and we take along our family members, neighbors and friends.

We have a lot at stake today. The IAM has led the way sounding the alarm about the jobs crisis in North America. Our members in manufacturing are held hostage to shifts in production to Mexico and China. Our transportation members are ignored by government and left out in the cold. Our federal employees are stripped of their bargaining rights and their jobs are outsourced to corporate pirates. More than one hundred thousand of our brothers and sisters have lost their good IAM-represented jobs.

We have made our cry, JOBS Worth Fighting For! part of the debate in today’s election. Now it’s up to each and every IAM member to make sure the candidates they vote for understand the need for good jobs in North America.

When each of us steps into the voting booth today, we must remember those one hundred thousand members who lost their jobs. Ask yourself who in government helped them and who ignored them. Who we vote for today can accelerate or slow down the outsourcing of the jobs that allowed us to raise our families and live in vibrant communities.

Take the time today to vote and to make sure your family members vote and your friends do too. Because our jobs are indeed JOBS Worth Fighting For!
