Adult Industry Workers to Form Union

A group of actors from San Fernando Valley's porn industry are agreeing to try to form a union to lobby for better health care, pay and work schedules.

About 35 performers met in private Tuesday and voted unanimously to draw up a list of demands and a bill of rights for actors in the industry.

Another meeting was held Wednesday.

The proposed union could be called Adult Entertainment Workers. Attempts to unionize adult film actors failed in 1993 and 1998.

The actors say performers are paid by the scene or day and do not receive pay for overtime work -- even when it involves a 20-hour day.

Porn actors have met in recent weeks to discuss ways to reduce the risk of sexually transmitted diseases after two actors tested positive for the AIDS virus.
