A jobs crisis exists. In the last two years,
private sector jobs shrank to 109.3 million. More than 2.3
million jobs vanished with hardly a whisper from official
Washington.
Hardest hit was manufacturing. Thirty straight months of job
losses sliced manufacturing jobs to 16.5 million. John F.
Kennedy was President of the United States the last time there
were so few manufacturing jobs. And America had 100 million
fewer people back then!
But manufacturing was not alone. Air transport and aerospace
layoffs accelerated after 9/11 and continue today. Even
government and service payrolls contracted last year.
This IAM Journal places this JOBS! crisis on the
national agenda. It also explores the policy changes needed to
end this crisis, and generate good paying jobs with great
benefits É for ourselves and our children.
Exactly what do we want from America's political leaders? We
want: JOBS! Worth Fighting For.
