Xue\u2019s work with new organizing strategies and successful organizing in the South is a key element to her impressive resume.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHanna brings an exciting set of skills to the Strategic Resources team and we cannot wait to see the great work she will do,\u201d said IAM Strategic Resources Director David White.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Xue is a 2023 graduate of the Cornell University School of Industrial and Labor Relations program. She also graduated with a master\u2019s of science in management and labor relations from Rutgers in 2025.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI always like to make a difference in workers&#8217; lives. as workers prepare for contract negotiations with the San Diego shipbuilder.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">The rally, hosted by IAM Local 389 and IAM District 947, and joined by the San Diego & Imperial Counties Labor Council, will bring together NASSCO shipbuilders and supporters to call for a strong contract that recognizes workers\u2019 contributions with fair wages, strong benefits, safe working conditions, and respect on the job.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">The event comes after a successful seven-month internal organizing campaign that has grown union membership within the bargaining unit from approximately 21% to more than 67%. Southern Territory is helping set the stage by unveiling the official convention logo and slogan:\u00a0<strong>\u201cBuilt by Workers, Powered by Solidarity.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The convention identity brings together the tradition of the IAM with the distinctive character of New Orleans and its world-famous Mardi Gras celebration.<\/p>\n<p>At the center of the logo, two clasped hands represent worker strength, unity and solidarity, surrounded by an industrial gear symbolizing the skilled workers and industries that have defined the IAM for more than a century. A colorful mask, feathers, fleur-de-lis and saxophone bring local flair to the design, while purple, green and gold pay tribute to the city\u2019s Mardi Gras traditions.<\/p>\n<p>The convention identity was inspired by IAM members through a slogan competition held by the IAM Southern Territory. IAM Local 10 member Joshua Brown submitted the winning artwork, while District 1888 Directing Business Representative Bill Benson submitted the winning slogan. The two were recognized as equal winners, with their contributions helping shape the convention\u2019s visual identity and guiding message.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis logo captures the spirit of both the IAM Union and the city of New Orleans,\u201d\u00a0<strong>said IAM Southern Territory General Vice President Craig Martin<\/strong>. \u201cIt represents the strength we have when workers stand together, while celebrating the culture and energy of the city that will welcome IAM members from across North America in that every IAM Union member has the right to report unsafe working conditions, fraud, corruption and other unlawful workplace practices without fear of retaliation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Occupational Safety and Health Administration&#8217;s (OSHA) Whistleblower Protection Program enforces 25 federal whistleblower laws that protect workers who engage in legally protected activities. Retaliation against employees for reporting safety concerns or exercising their workplace rights is illegal.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Retaliation can take many forms, including termination, demotion, reduced hours, discipline, harassment, intimidation or other adverse employment actions. When workers are afraid to speak up, workplace safety suffers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The IAM Safety and Health Department regularly covers whistleblower protections during training classes and member outreach, emphasizing not only workers&#8217; rights but also the importance of acting quickly. Many whistleblower laws have strict filing deadlines, making it critical for members to seek guidance as soon as possible if they believe they have experienced retaliation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Speaking up about workplace safety helps protect every member. people at risk across the country, the Trump Administration is pulling back protections for workers from one of the fastest-growing workplace hazards: extreme heat.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2026\/08\/01\/climate\/heat-workplace-protections-osha-trump.html?unlocked_article_code=1.2FA.LdS_.vvFptYq34uQN&smid=nytcore-ios-share\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Recent reports<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> say the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has reduced the heat-focused inspections and enforcement efforts that were previously expanded under the Biden administration. Now, the Congress Republicans are blocking the first-ever federal workplace heat standard proposed by the Biden administration in 2024, which would establish dire nationwide protections for workers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">For the IAM Union, this isn&#8217;t politics; it&#8217;s about workers\u2019 lives. The Trump administration and Congress Republicans are shamefully putting workers at higher risk and choosing corporate interests over workers\u2019 safety.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">&#8220;The job of government is to protect working people\u2014not make it easier for employers to cut corners at workers&#8217; expense,&#8221; said IAM International President Brian Bryant. &#8220;When temperatures reach dangerous levels, employers have a responsibility to provide the protections workers need to stay safe while doing their jobs. Rolling back heat safety efforts puts lives at risk, and the IAM Union will continue fighting for enforceable standards that ensure every worker makes it home safely.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Biden administration\u2019s proposal of the nation&#8217;s first comprehensive federal heat standard entails simple but necessary requirements for employers: develop a heat illness prevention plan, provide workers with access to drinking water and shaded\/cooled recovery areas, allow paid rest breaks during periods of extreme heat, educate workers and supervisors on the signs of heat illness, and have a procedure for when workers show symptoms of heat stress. State Council meeting to discuss the upcoming 2026 elections, hear from union and political leaders, and endorse candidates committed to fighting for working families.<\/p>\n<p>State Council President Rick Compher welcomed delegates, noting that the IAM&#8217;s political endorsement process begins at the local level and reminding members that all IAM members are encouraged to participate. The meeting was the most attended Maryland and D.C. State Council gathering in recent memory.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.goiam.org\/news\/lt-gov-aruna-miller-accepts-iam-union-endorsement-on-behalf-of-moore-miller-ticket-at-maryland-and-d-c-state-council-meeting\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong class=\"lexxy-content__bold\">Maryland Lt. Gov. Aruna Miller (D) accepted the IAM\u2019s endorsement<\/strong><\/a> on behalf of the reelection campaign of Gov. Wes Moore and herself, praising the union&#8217;s long history of standing up for working people. IAM National Political and Legislative Director Hasan Solomon urged delegates to stay focused on the issues affecting working families, while U.S. Rep. April McClain Delaney (D-Md.) highlighted the impact of federal job cuts, tariffs, and attacks on workers&#8217; rights. IAM Eastern Territory General Vice President David Sullivan reminded delegates that the union&#8217;s political work is about electing leaders who will put working people ahead of politics and fight for policies that improve their lives.<\/p>\n<p>The Maryland and D.C. State Council endorsed the following candidates and elected officials: Maryland Lt. Gov. Aruna Miller and Gov. Wes Moore; U.S. Reps.
