Community Services & Retirees

In recognition of our members’ efforts, this department is proud to report significant successes.

The gist of our department is the involvement for and with the membership. We are proud that we have been successful in achieving that participation.

With a focus on support and an emphasis on service, even through the most difficult times, our committees provide guidance, counseling, education, referrals and funds in times of emergency and personal distress.

Our services provide visibility for our Union and increase our reputation in the community. Whether it be in response to a strike, natural disaster, or a personal hardship, our department is there to assist. Our members promote the sense of solidarity from which our Union was founded.

The Employee Assistance Program has been developed so that our committees can be more attuned to our workers’ needs.

Through our training program, we now have a staff of certified Employee Assistance professionals. These counselors address problems of alcohol and substance abuse, as well as domestic and workplace violence. In today’s challenging world, this support is paramount.

The Community Services and Retirees Department offers opportunities to educate, coordinate, plan and provide sources of financial assistance when necessary.

Our department values the resources of our retirees. This essential group helped form our Union and want to continue to keep it strong. Our retirees are diligent in maintaining a political power base to represent senior issues and other important causes. Recently, we have had an increase in retiree membership throughout the United States and Canada.
